Schema Markup for UK Businesses: Enhance Your Search Presence
Schema markup is structured data added to a page's code that tells search engines exactly what the content is, such as a business, a product or an article. It can make pages eligible for enhanced search results. It does not guarantee them, and it must accurately reflect what visitors can see.

Useful schema types for UK businesses
| Type | Use for |
|---|---|
| Organization | Your business name, logo and official profiles |
| LocalBusiness | Address, opening hours and contact details for a physical location |
| Product and Offer | Product details, price in GBP and availability |
| Article | Guides and blog posts |
| BreadcrumbList | The page's position in your site structure |
| Event | Dated events with a location |
How to add it
Google recommends the JSON-LD format, placed in a script tag in the page. Many website platforms and plugins can generate it, though the output should be checked.
Testing
- Google's Rich Results Test shows which rich results a page is eligible for.

- Search Console reports errors across your site.
Rules to follow
Never mark up content that is not visible, invent reviews or ratings, or describe your business inaccurately. Misleading structured data can lead to a manual action. Schema is covered in our technical SEO services and the ultimate guide to technical SEO.
