How to Choose the Right SEO Agency or Consultant in the UK

The right SEO partner explains clearly what they will do, why it will help your business and how success will be measured. The wrong one promises guaranteed rankings, hides its methods and reports numbers that do not connect to revenue. Use the questions below to tell the difference.

Questions to ask

  • What would you do first for my site, and why?
  • How will you measure success, and how does that link to enquiries or sales?
  • Who will actually do the work?
  • How do you build links? Can you show examples?
  • What will you need from us?
  • What happens to the work, content and accounts if we stop working together?

Red flags

  • Guaranteed first-page or number-one rankings.
  • Secret or 'proprietary' methods they will not explain.
  • Large numbers of links for a low monthly fee.
  • Reports full of vanity metrics but no link to business outcomes.
  • Long minimum contracts before any audit has been done.

Google publishes its own advice on hiring an SEO, which is worth reading alongside this list.
